More truly new users finish Onboarding v2

Finished (Let's go) 236 → 381 (+61.4%) — same count as funnel step 14 below. First-time splash starts: 425 → 580. Installs: 514 → 598.

Finishing signup and coming back are still two different challenges

57.9% of completers opened the app again (was 67.7%). Weakest day: 2026-07-15 — only 42.1% of completers that day came back (38 completers). Average return after 9.1h (was 13.7h) — faster return is good even when coverage fell.

Onboarding v2 funnel — this week vs prior week

First-time onboarders only: empty splash user_id + no prior PageFeed in 180 days. OTP = LoginOtpSucceeded. Each bar = users who reached that step and every prior step (within 1 day of splash).

Onboarding analysis — where first-time users drop

Stage 1 — SMS sent → OTP verified (−78, 16.1%): Of 484 users who got an SMS, only 406 accepted the code. The rest reach the OTP screen and mostly leave (typical next event: app backgrounded) without LoginOtpSucceeded. Secondary Stage 1 leak: Login → SMS (−53, 9.9%).

Stage 2 — Privacy → Name (−17, 4.2%): OTP → Privacy is 0 drop this week (406 → 406): once a first-time user accepts OTP, they land on Privacy. The next real leak is continuing past Privacy into Name (406 → 389). After Name, the rest of Stage 2 is tight through Finished (381). Prior week Stage 2 was weaker (80.5%), including OTP → Privacy 293 → 244 (−49).

Bottom line: first-time funnel volume grew (splash 425 → 580; finished 236 → 381). The main problem is still getting the OTP accepted; post-OTP onboarding conversion is strong this week (93.8%). Watch re-open coverage separately (67.7% → 57.9%).

Retention Product - Retention

In plain English: we put people into a group by the week (or day) they first opened the app. Then we ask: what % of that group came back later? Higher % = better. A 0% on a very new group usually means “too early to measure,” not “everyone left.”

Okay — above the bar, not great

The last finished weekly group (w2, 373 people who first opened the app that week) came back at 31.1% one week later. That matches the headline number for week ending 2026-07-06: 31.1%. Vs the week before (w3 at 42.9%), that is down (-11.8 points). The newest group (w1, 183 people) still shows 0% — that is normal: not enough time has passed for a “came back after 1 week” number.

What’s good

  • Week-1 return for w2 is 31.1% (bar we watch: about 25%+).
  • Best finished week in the table: w8 at 52.6% (38 people).
  • Several recent bigger groups are holding up: w2, w3, w4.

What’s bad / what to watch

  • Weakest bigger group: w11 at 3.9% (104 people).
  • On a finished daily group (2026-07-06), only 6.7% came back on day 7 (we like to see about 12%+).
  • Day-1 return jumps around a lot on the chart (from 10.0% to 37.1%) — some install days stick, some do not.

Daily chart — how to read it

Each date = people who first opened that day. Green (day 1) = % who came back the next day. Red (day 7) = % who came back a week later. Recent days can look low on day 7 until a full week has passed — prefer finished days like 2026-07-06 (d1 20.0%, d7 6.7%). Across this chart, day 1 ran about 10.0%–37.1% and day 7 about 6.7%–20.0%.

Weekly table — how to read it

w1 (top row) = newest week of first opens. Rows go older as the number goes up (w2, w3, …). Columns w1 / w2 / w4… = “came back after 1 / 2 / 4 weeks.” 0% on the right usually means that week has not happened yet for that group. Focus on the first finished row with a real week-1 number (right now: w2 at 31.1%).
